PUPPIES WE'VE RAISED

Raised as part of everyday life full of play, exploration, companionship, and the freedom of farm life.

How our puppies are raised

The way a puppy is raised has a lasting impact on who they become. Our puppies are born in my bedroom, where they spend their first four weeks surrounded by constant care and everyday family life. During those early weeks, puppies are weighed every few days before moving to weekly checks. Their growth and development are carefully monitored and charted, helping ensure each puppy progresses steadily and continues to thrive.

From there, they move into a dedicated puppy area with daily access to grass and outdoor space where they can play, explore, and build confidence.

From around six weeks of age, they begin meeting trusted visitors and spending time with our other dogs, including our Bernese, Lotus, and the other poodles, who play an important role in teaching natural dog communication and social skills.

For us, socialisation is about far more than simply hearing hoovers or televisions. It is about raising puppies around real life; other dogs, different people, farm animals, vehicles, grooming, and everyday experiences.

They are handled daily from birth by our family, helping them become comfortable with people from the very beginning. As they grow and their immune systems develop, they gradually meet a wider range of people and experiences.

They are also introduced to grooming before leaving for their new homes. We work closely with a trusted groomer who spends time with them from a young age, and we’ve had lovely feedback that this early introduction helps puppies feel relaxed and comfortable with grooming as they grow.

These early experiences help our puppies develop into balanced, confident dogs who are easy to live with and form strong bonds with the people around them.

While we do not specifically train therapy or assistance dogs, some of our puppies have naturally gone on to become them, something we believe reflects their temperament, early foundations, and people-focused nature.

Health and Standards

The health and wellbeing of every dog always comes first.

All breeding dogs are carefully selected for health, temperament, structure, and suitability before any breeding decisions are made. Health testing is an essential part of responsible breeding and helps us make informed decisions for future generations.

Our breeding dogs are:

🦴 Hip Scored
👁 Eye Tested
📋 Health Tested: DNA - PRA (rcd4), DNA - prcd-PRA, DNA - vWD1

❤️ Temperament Focused

All breeding dogs are Kennel Club registered and undergo the health testing recommended for their breed.

However, good breeding is about more than test results alone. Temperament, character, trainability, and overall wellbeing are equally important considerations when planning a litter.

Every pairing is chosen thoughtfully, with the aim of producing healthy, well-balanced puppies that will thrive as much-loved family companions for years to come.

Breeding is a lifelong responsibility, and every puppy raised at Filoli is bred with care, intention, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
