Breeding with Purpose
Everything at All Ears and Tails begins with outstanding health, balanced temperament, and the ability to form deep, lasting bonds with people.

Our approach is shaped not only by decades of breeding and working with animals, but by a lifelong understanding of how they can support, protect, and enrich our lives, often in the moments we need them most.

Every breeding decision is made with care, considering not only health, genetics, and temperament, but also the qualities that help dogs become confident, adaptable, and much-loved members of the family.
Why Our Dogs?
Every dog at All Ears and Tails has been chosen for a reason.​ Health, temperament, character and compatibility all play an important role in breeding decisions, but equally important is how our dogs live their daily lives. They are family dogs first, sharing our home, routines, adventures, and everyday experiences.

The qualities we value most are kindness, confidence, resilience, trainability, and a genuine affinity for people. These are the traits we seek to preserve and strengthen in future generations.
​
Our aim is simple. To raise healthy, well balanced dogs who will become much loved companions and valued members of their own families.
Poodles and Doodles
While Standard Poodles remain at the heart of All Ears and Tails, we occasionally undertake carefully planned doodle litters where there is a clear purpose behind the pairing.
​
For us, crossbreeding should never be done simply because it is fashionable or commercially popular. There should be a genuine intention to combine the strengths of two breeds in a thoughtful and responsible way.
​
Whether poodle or doodle, the same principles apply: outstanding health, excellent temperament, ethical breeding, and puppies raised with care, love, and respect.
​
Every litter is planned with the same commitment to quality, well-being, and the long term future of the dogs we breed.
QUALITIES THAT DOGS SHOW US
Dogs embody many of the qualities we value most: trust, loyalty, resilience, joy, and the ability to live fully in the moment.
Dogs form deep bonds with people, built on trust, understanding, and a sense of unconditional love, free from judgement.​ When those foundations are nurtured from the very beginning, the bond that develops is strong, steady, and lasting.
Dogs have a way of stepping in when it matters most,
often without being asked, and without hesitation.

Why poodles are so unique
Poodles are genuinely unusual dogs because they combine qualities that rarely exist together in one breed: intelligence, emotional sensitivity, adaptability, and a natural affinity for people.
​
They are exceptionally intelligent dogs, learning routines, words, emotions, body language, and patterns incredibly quickly. Their ability to tune into the people around them often feels almost instinctive.
​
They are also deeply expressive dogs. Poodles often make strong eye contact, communicate through subtle facial expressions and body language, and form remarkably close bonds with the people around them. Many describe an almost "conversational" relationship with them.
​​
Originally bred as water retrievers, poodles are also highly athletic dogs. Beneath their elegant appearance is a strong, agile working breed capable of remarkable stamina, speed and endurance. Many poodles excel in activities such as agility, scent work, retrieving, swimming and canine sports, with some capable of reaching speeds of around 30 mph (48 km/h).

Part of what makes poodles so special is their versatility. They can thrive in many different roles and environments, adapting naturally to the lives and personalities of the people around them.​ But for many people, what truly makes poodles unique is something harder to define. They often seem thoughtful, observant, emotionally aware, and deeply bonded to their humans, developing distinct personalities that feel entirely their own.

That balance of intelligence, sensitivity, confidence and companionship is part of why people either completely fall for poodles... or don't truly understand them until they've lived with one.

"I was recommended Carla by another standard poodle breeder and I am extremely pleased. Both Carla and mum of the pups did so well!
Carla was very approachable and kind, with prompt answers. I'm a young adult girl who was looking for an Assistance Dog prospect, and Carla very quickly picked out the perfect puppy for me - who at the time was simply the Red Collar Boy. It was clear she knew each puppy's personality, and their development was exactly where it should be when I met them all at six weeks. I got to do the puppy test on them, and it confirmed that Red Collar Boy - now Tophee - would be going home with me.
Parents are both properly health and genetically tested (eyes, hips, elbows, VW and some other tests poodles should go through). Health was extremely important to me, alongside temperament, and so far Tophee has had absolutely no issues to date. Puppies were introduced to grooming early, and Tophee now absolutely LOVES going to the groomers!
​Tophee is now an actual Assistance Dog in Training. With him my social tolerance has increased. My mood has improved dramatically. I'm able to withstand situations in public that usually would really tire me out. I'm able to go on public transport which I never thought I'd be able to do. He has already learned some tasks to mitigate some of my disabilities, and with training he will continue to do so. Not all dogs have the temperament to be Assistance Dogs, but with how confidently Tophee takes on new situations and enjoys working with me so far it is clear that not only did Carla socialise the puppies to the best of her abilities, she also knew right away what puppy to match me with. We still keep in contact, which means a lot too. I'm so grateful for everything.
